If I could tell my life story to someone, it would be Richard Shaw, the dean of admissions at Stanford University. Why? Because I really, really, really want to get into Stanford University. Because Stanford University is one of the greatest places on earth. And because I have an extremely low chance of getting in. (Sorry about the poor grammar)
Everyone, at any point in life, whether they are a toddler, an octogenarian, or a student, has goals. A belief that their lives could be better, whether it be owning a home or getting an A in IB Junior English. Something like the American Dream. I've always dreamed of going to Stanford University. The prestige, atmosphere, and opportunities associated with it is extremely alluring.
Some people say that elite universities are hyped up, and not worth stressing and going through full IB over. I would have to disagree. Although they are not wrong, I do believe there are benefits in going to elite universities. Not only do students receive world class educations, they are presented with a plethora of opportunities to use their education to make a difference to the world. That's why I am willing to work hard to get into a good college, because education represents one big opportunity. An opportunity to achieve your goals and make a difference.
Would telling my life story to the dean of admissions help me get in? Probably not. Does it mean I won't try? Not a chance. It would be an opportunity to act on my dreams, which is in a way related to this passage:
"The dream is the truth. Then they act and do things accordingly"-Zora Neale Hurston
Is it a coincidence that we both want to get into Stanford University Andrew Luu? I think that your idea of telling your life story to Mr. Shaw is a great idea; it reminds me of the movie 21. (Clean out any casinos lately?)
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the word choice and the subtle humor in this post. The reasons why you want to go to Stanford make sense to me. We should try visiting it together this summer. It would be a great experience.
