Journal #5: Thesis Statement

In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston structures the plot episodically -- corresponding to Janie's marriages -- to examine the different ways women can be oppressed separately.

  1. Im pretty sure you skipped the "Why" part of this. The effect of the literary attribute is "to examine the different ways women can be oppressed" but there's no "why create the attribute". It's a good start. You just have to add the reasoning.

  2. I agree with Jared. Your thesis is currently a little ambiguous. What are the different ways women are oppressed, and why do they matter in the context of the book?

  3. You got this man. Just a little more reasoning and how it relates to the book, then you will be good.
